In the book of Matthew, Jesus tells us that when he returns in His Glory, he will separate all gathered before him, the sheep from the goats. He will tell the sheep “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matt 25:40 (NIV). We know that God cares for each of His children. Even the prisoners. In fact, Jesus was a prisoner Himself.
Kairos takes this charge to “do unto the least of these” and takes the life changing power of Jesus Christ into the prison walls attempting to establish a Christian community in which those incarcerated can worship and grow while serving their sentence. Kairos consists of volunteers from the free world working with incarcerated persons chosen by prison staff (usually the warden and chaplain) to participate in a Kairos 3 1/2 day weekend. After going through a Kairos Weekend, the participants are part of the greater Kairos community and then participate in weekly prayer and share groups, the basic unit of Kairos and monthly reunions.
Serving in Kairos Prison Ministry is a calling with huge rewards. Being in the front row of God’s work is a blessing few get to experience, yet we witness it during every Kairos Weekend. Ask God if He wants you to serve Him in this ministry. If you feel God is calling you, then reach out to us at email@example.com. We’d love to hear from you and talk to you about oppotunities to serve.
